Methodology
Points & Miles Valuation
How we convert points and miles to approximate dollar values so you can compare offers across different reward programs.
Our Conversion Rates
When a credit card offers a bonus in points or miles instead of cash, we estimate the dollar value using widely-accepted industry valuations. These represent the average redemption value when points are used optimally (typically for travel transfers).
| Program | Currency | Valuation | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chase Ultimate Rewards | Points | 2.0¢ per point | 75,000 pts → ~$1,500 |
| Amex Membership Rewards | Points | 2.0¢ per point | 100,000 pts → ~$2,000 |
| Capital One Miles | Miles | 1.5¢ per mile | 75,000 miles → ~$1,125 |
| Citi ThankYou Points | Points | 1.5¢ per point | 80,000 pts → ~$1,200 |
| JetBlue TrueBlue | Points | 1.5¢ per point | 70,000 pts → ~$1,050 |
| AA AAdvantage Miles | Miles | 1.5¢ per mile | 50,000 miles → ~$750 |
| Other / Unknown | Points/Miles | 1.0¢ per point | 50,000 pts → ~$500 |
Important Notes
- These are estimates. Actual redemption values vary based on how you use your points — travel transfers typically yield the highest value.
- Cash back redemptions are usually worth less (e.g., Chase points are 1¢ each for cash back vs 2¢ for travel).
- We use the higher "optimal" valuations because BonusVault's audience is likely to maximize their rewards through transfers.
- Values are approximate and updated periodically. The dollar value shown on offer pages is for comparison purposes only.
- Dollar bonus offers (cash back, statement credits) are shown at face value — no conversion needed.
